"Cryoshape" Treatment for Keloids

Following on from my thread here: http://www.keloidscarforum.com/Thread-Treatment

After extensive google searches, I came across the "cryoshape" treatment. One of the first doctors to offer this treatment was Dr. Brain Gatsman. I read a lot about him and what he does and decided to drive down to Cleveland Ohio, USA (8 hours from Toronto) to see him at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital. To book an appointment with him is $500, I'm Canadian and don't have American health insurance (luckily the doctor refunded me $400.. I think he felt bad, read below). I drove all the way to Ohio to find out he doesn't do the cryoshape surgery anymore. He used to be able to do it, but now he has issues with the company who manufactures the tools to perform the surgery so he backed out of doing it anymore all together. He's apparently a Keloid specialist, and his suggestion to me was to go to Israel and get the surgery done there by the man who invented the cryoshape. His name is Dr. Yaron Har-Shai. While I was in Ohio, the nurse took photos of my body (probably one of the most horrifying experiences of my life) which I requested be sent to Dr. Yaron Har-Shai. I got in contact with his clinic in Haifa, Israel and they are willing to look at new patients. I am hoping to go to Israel this summer (2013). Before going to Ohio, I wasn't aware of the side-effects of the steroid injections. It was Dr. Gatsman who warned me that continuing with Steroid injections would decrease my chances of having children in the future, I'm sure the same can be applied to men as well. I am not married, or thinking about children anytime soon, but I would be devastated to know down the line that I am unable to have children because I used to inject steroids into my keloids.

There are also other dangerous options that can remove keloids but Dr. Gatsman does NOT recommend them: Radiation and Chemotherapy (I know I was shocked to hear that too)

If anyone wants to speak to me personally or has any further questions about me and my life with keloids, don't hesitate to ask for my contact Icon_smile

I'm aware that it is available in other areas of the US but I specifically wanted to visit Dr.Gatsman b/c I knew he was one of the first to bring the technology over to North America. Another thing I should have mentioned is that it is very expensive. I was quoted at $1000 per keloid on my back (I have two large ones), that does not include other hospital fee's, etc. I asked him how much he would have charged me hypothetically, if he could do it. With that money I can fly down to Israel, and meet with the doctor who invented the technology and have him do the surgery/treat my keloids.

Do you have any further information on these speclialists? Perhaps it would be a good idea to summarise your experience of Dr. Gatsman and also any information you have on Dr. Har-Shai in our Specialists Forum. I would certainly be interested to know Dr. Gatsman's background, as well as any work currently carried out by Dr. Har-Shai. The latter in particular consdiering the former doesn't seem to work with keloids any more... perhaps he has written some white papers? Or has examples of his treatment methods and how effective they are.

Whilst it would be difficult and expensive to get to Israel, it is worth considering...

Ag1989, did Dr Yaron agree to take your case? How did you contact his clinic and what are the costs like?

I hv a chest keloid and I've tried steroid and injections of 5FU and also cryo (non intralesional) and it hasn't helped much. I live in Malaysia and was hoping to find a clinic that has cryoshape around here but there doesn't seem to be.

Hi Banz,

Dr.Har-Shai agreed to take my case. I have no idea how much he charges but his office is a "cosmetic clinic", so I'm assuming its expensive.

I've seen pictures and have heard a lot of amazing things about him and his work. I'm hoping to go to Israel within the next year and half. You can find the number to his clinic online, give them a call and see what they say to you. The office is located in Haifa, Israel.

RE: "Cryoshape" Treatment for Keloids
I've had cryoshape. Performed a few years ago before they discontinued supplying needles to North America. There are a lot of doctors now though that do perform the operation here in the US and I can tell you, you do NOT need to travel to Israel for this. It's an extremely easy operation ( if you want to call it that ).
As far as the results. I will say that it was the most effective treatment, and I've had them all... It flattened my keloid and took most of the bulk out. Unfortunately, I'm now suffering from infections, though I had them before cryoshape.
Let me know if you'd like more information.

I'm from Toronto too! There was a gal from Richmond Hill that went to get Cryoshape in the US. She had a website/forum but hasn't posted update since last year....

Anyone know what happened to her. I've tried emailing her, no replies??
